Searching for the Promised Land of Public Space
The peer learning event on public space in Africa was held in Durban eThekwini, South Africa, in 4-6 June 2014. It was jointly hosted by eThekwini Municipality, COGTA – the Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affaires, UCLG, UCLG Africa, and UN Habitat. The topics were the meaning of public space in Africa, public space as a strategy to achieve the equitable city, the action plans and the share of the lesson on public space.
This 3 day event attracted over 200 participants including city practitioners, councilors, and NGOs. It acted as a milestone for the UCLG South-South exchange, widening recognition of the issue of public space and enabling the cities to enter into a new era of commitment.
