Intermediary Cities – Strategic Planning and Management of public Services
Peer learning between two intermediary cities, Swakopmund in Namibia, and Kwadukuza, South Africa, took place in Swakopmund, in February 2014. The cities chose the topic of strategic planning and service delivery as the basic services are the core task of every local government to meet the expectation of their citizens. The event was supported by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Cities Alliances, and the Government of Norway, while UCLG, ALAN and MILE supported the exchange methodologically.
This event implies that South-South decentralized cooperation and learning can be a powerful tool to improve the urban management, as the cities can share the lessons between the peers who feel equal not only in socio-economics but also in culture.
